Historical Overview Section
After Roger united the Norman kingdoms, his son William I (1131 – May 7, 1166), called the Bad or the Wicked, was the second king of Sicily, ruling from his father's death in 1154 to his own. He was the fourth son of Roger II and Elvira of Castile. His maternal grandparents were Alfonso VI of Castile and his queen Isabella.
William's title "the Bad" seems little merited and expresses the bias of the historian Hugo Falcandus and the baronial class against the king and the official class by whom he was guided. It is obvious, however, that William was far inferior in character and energy to his father, and was attached to the semi-Muslim life of his gorgeous palaces of Palermo. He fought the Byzantine Greeks, and lost North Africa to the Almohads.
The Kingdom of Sicily lasted from 1154 to 1282, when the war of the Sicilian Vespers split it into Angevin Naples and the Kingdom of Trinacria (the island of Sicily).
Using the army in FoG
- There are several quite different armies available from this list, due to the political changes within the period covered.
- Frederich II and his successors (pre 1267) allows a large number of 'saracen' troops, mostly LF & LH but with some MF.
- From 1282 the Sicilian option allows for substantial numbers of Almunghavars, from 1292 these can be drilled, after 1302 this converts into the option for Aragonese allies.
- All versions have plenty of knights available, plus some pretty ordinary HF and MF.
- It looks neater if you do it with bullet points. Just put each new suggestion on a new line, starting with an "*"

6 drilled knights because they are average: several units are really just filler, although given the lack of LH the mob and def spear can be useful to guard your camp. One def spear unit can be used for rear support of the drilled sp/Xb. This and the MF XB have to try and cover the flanks of the main line without getting caught. Losing initiative should be OK as you will want to get a double move for the Almughavars on bound 1. This was a wolves/Oath theme, which avoided the threat of a shooty cav army, e.g. Ottomans: Of course terrain is not a problem, but the flanks can be if there is no protection from LH. Avoid too much manoeuvre, especially in missile range.

- Using asterisks inthe edit mode creates a bulleted list in the actual site
- This is a lot easier to do than easier than setting up tables
- For FoG I suggest listing your army in order or march
- with troop desctiptions on each line, for example
- 4 HF Armoured Average Drilled Impact Foot Swordsmen
- 8 LG Undrilled Unarmoured Poor Bowen
- Dont forget to include your Generals !!!
Include any notes you want here, including comments on how to use - or play against - the army.

UK Bookstore
You can make the bookstore show only the books for the army you are setting up the page for. You need to change the line above where it says "node=0"by replacing the number "0" with the right code. You can find that by going to the Bookshop page, navigating to the right page, and holding your mouse over link to that army on the right hand menu. The node number you need to replace "0" with will show up in the bar at the bottom of your screen! Don't worry if you can't find it - I'll get round to sorting it out eventually |
