Game 2, not quite top table but a matchup against Ben and Tom, with an anticipated Anglo-Dutch army
The lists for the Buccaneer and Anglo-Dutch from this game, as well as all the other lists from the games at Oxford can be seen here in the FoGR Wiki.
The Anglo-Dutch were the classic army for this period - numerous, high in quality and able to dish out some fearsome firepower not only from massed musketry, but also because almost every unit had an organic little gunne attached to it.
The table was rather more cluttered than the first game, with both sides deploying a number of fields and areas of scrubland. Yet again the ship had not made it onto table, with the Pirates moving first instead. This would need to be a swift attack to make sure the Pirate charge was coherent and intact by the time it got in amongst the Dutch and Englishmen facing them
What's a picklin' me lemons here then?
This game is so straightforward that you won't need these bits this time. Just look at the photos and work it out for yourself
Raise the Jolly Roger! The Pirates advanced quickly through the patchwork of fields, and as they approached the enemy their thin skirmish screen was quickly withdrawn. This battle would need to be a toe to toe slog, and there was no value in risking even one skirmish unit - everyone who died would need to be committed full fat line infantry
There was once a pirate who wanted to be a Private Eye. Unfortunately, he was blind. So what did he become?
A privateer!
Heave Ho! The Anglo-Dutch had adopted a simple yet effective tactical strategy - form a line and shoot. With no Horse in the Pirate army this was about as sensible as it got really. Me scurvy gang o'lads were leading with the hairy Impact Foote in the middle and Superior old salt-encrusted Pirates on either flank, with the bog-standard ones providing rear support, all the while taking further inspiration from the Great Commander in the middle of the line encouraging his men by wavin' his cutlass and a cursin' and a callin' out to davy Jones for them all to ignore the constant hail of incoming fire.
The two lines were less than 8 inches apart… Shiver me timbers - the Dutch then made a potentially fatal mistake, in not stepping up to shooting range, instead preferring to let me merry band o'Pirates come to them.
This allowed the Warrior Foote to close to 4 inches - taking one round of shooting at long range, and then - after the Dutch had stepped up - just one at close range before they were in combat! The Dutch didn't like the taste of cold cutlass one little bit, and their line was shocked and shattered almost from the off
Using a Matchlock Musket
Thar she blows! The wild charge of the Pirates had blasted a hole straight through the middle of the Dutch army so wide that it would not be possible for even the most skilled Netherlandish engineer to build a dyke to prevent the onrushing tide of Piracy engulfing the entire Anglo-Dutch nation!
What do you get when you mix a pirate with a vampire?
DraculARRRR
Soon after it was almost straight into swabbin' the decks of the fish guts, offal and the handful of Dutch units that had survived the onslaught, who now found themselves totally outnumbered and surrounded
Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen! Even the sole unit of Dutch cavalry could do little to stem the tide..
At the ends of the line the Pirates swung their jubilant formations outwards, ganging up on the last survivors and delivering a rapid and effective coup de grace.
The Result is a 25-0 victory with no losses at all for the Pirates! New Holland is Ours!

Post Match Summary from the Buccaneer Commander
Well, blow me down with a hornpipe jig - that was jolly super, wasn't it me hearties?
There is nothing like a simple plan well executed to secure victory, and fortunately for me and be band o'smuggglers and rascals, we were the most simple ones on the table this afternoon out of what even I must admit were two exceedingly simple plans on display.
At least this was a victory for taking the initiative, seizing the day, grabbing the cabin boy by the capstan and hauling him up.... oh, erm, well.. never mind about that, we won fair and square by attacking with vigor, which must always be better than waiting for it to happen to you. Although, come to think of it, that does remind me of a rather special night I spent in a rum house with the crew of a Swedish merchantman on a small island off the coats of Antigua once.. but that is a different story, for a different time and a different website no doubt too.
Onwards and upwards boys, onwards and upwards
Jack "Goldfinch" Hannibal's Post Match Analysis
Bilge rats! I cannot believe that someone gifted you such a victory by the simple expedient of forgettin' that yer shambolic bunch o'rapscallions were Warriors who move 4", rather than proper blokoes and fellows who move a more civilized 3". The Dutchmen missed out on a whole round o'shooting, and with that their main tactic n'all.... I would like to stab that whoreson nancy-pants who has inflated your ego so through this trifling inadequacy!
However, aside from that there is fair little I can say in response to such a comprehensive victory and such a short and sweet match report - although the laziness of not posting the battle maps is rather poor I think, although perhaps understandable too. I just hope that this victory catapults your sorry excuse for an army up into the Alasdair-infested gaming stratosphere from whence you shall no doubt be rudely ejected with haste and a lack of dignity - and whence the man and his horsemen are done broadsidin' ye, I'm going t' keelhaul yer sword yet again - let's be seein yer next game then.
