The Britcon Schedule
Britcon is
a multi-day residential event for competitors, with more than enough opportunity
for gaming to satisfy the most ardent wargamer! Competitors are welcome from
Thursday onwards, trade show visitors on Saturday & Sunday
THURSDAY -
EARLY ARRIVALS GAMING DAY
Fit in a few social games – or that vital last practice session. Tables
available from 10am, and the Wargamers Bar will also be open until pub closing
time.
FRIDAY
–1st ROUND GAMES FOR ALL OUR COMPETITIONS, plus OPEN TABLES GAMING DAY
The Friday Night Game eases you gently into the Britcon atmosphere. The
“official” start and finish times for the first round games are flexible,
however we generally start no sooner than 5:30-6pm with players being matched up
with suitable opponents as and when they arrive, so whenever you turn up you
won’t have too long to wait before getting down to some serious gaming. The
latest possible start time is 9pm, and all first round games are generally
played to a conclusion with “time” only being called on all remaining games
at Midnight with no bounds or game turns starting after 11.45pm.
If you
arrive earlier, tables are again available for practice or social gaming, and
for those staying on Thursday evening breakfasts are served from 7:45am to 9am
at your accommodation.
SATURDAY – TRADE SHOW AND
COMPETITIONS
The Trade
Hall is open to the public from 10am to 5pm, however
competitors don’t quite get it so easy! Residential competitors can start
their day with a hearty breakfast served in their accommodation between 7am and
8am, and a café and a licensed bar will be open throughout the day in the main
hall for lunch, snacks and any other refreshment or sustenance you may find you
require….
2nd ROUND COMPETITION GAMES start at 8.15am and finish 11.45am. Each period will publish specific rules for determining how to play the “Last Bound” where games do not make it to a conclusion prior to the official finish time.
3rd ROUND
COMPETITION GAMES start at 12.30pm and finish at 4.00pm.
4th ROUND COMPETITION GAMES start at 4.45pm, and finish at 8.15pm, giving competitors the chance to enjoy the culinary delights of Manchester and get back in time for the legendary (and often quite messy) …
BRITCON
PUB QUIZ !!
With a very civilized start time of 10.30pm, the Pub Quiz is the most hotly
contested competitive event of the weekend. You and a team of your clubmates (or
random group of casual acquaintances) can fight for the ultimate prize in
British Wargaming Military, Gaming and General Knowledge! Pub Quiz participants
also benefit from a secret viewing of tomorrows draw for all competitions, and
we also present the coveted Yellow Jerseys to those leading at the (just-past)
half-way stage . After this you are again free to explore the late night
delights of Manchester (should you still be capable of doing so).
SUNDAY – TRADE SHOW AND COMPETITIONS
Again the Trade Hall is open to public from 10am to 5pm, but our bright-eyed and bushy tailed competitors will all be bouncing out of bed and raring to go long before then, usually after consuming an astonishing array of healthy breakfast items in te breakfast rooms in their accommodation blocks (breakfast is served between 7:15am and 9am).
5th ROUND
COMPETITION GAMES start at 8.30am and finish at midday on Sunday, giving time
for the ….
SHOPPING
FRENZY!!
An extended lunch break on Sunday runs from 12pm till 1.30pm allowing those
competition gamers who haven’t yet suffered at least one or more “early
baths” following crushing defeats in their previous 5 games some dedicated
time to visit the Trade Stands. Nearly all our traders this year are also
offering post-free deals whereby you can place advance orders and collect them
at the show, so as well as browsing the stands you can use this time to collect
any orders made before the show.
6th ROUND COMPETITION GAMES start at 1.30pm latest, and are all finished by 5.00pm.
PRIZE
GIVING
Starting around 5.45pm (and running as quickly as we can manage), the lucky
winners and gallant runners up are awarded what promises to be a best-ever
selection of prizes. Each year we also run a simple prize draw for a free
“En-Suite” package entry to the following year’s BRITCON – so make sure
to hand in your badge and stick around for the prize giving as only those
actually present can win – if you are not there the winning badge will be
drawn again. This prize is non transferable and cannot be carried forward to
future years, nor will money to the value be paid).
