"QRF" Geoff is one of TMP's most enthusiastic posters, managing to effortlessly walk the line between informative and friendly posting, and shameless product plugs for QRF's excellent and ever expanding range of tanks and infantry from every conflict going. Geoff also gives us a tantalizing glimpse of how he was drawn into the business through the strange magical powers someone had invested in a hand-carved WW2 Russian ground attack aircraft, unveils a hitherto hidden side in that he occasionally beats one of his own children (erm, at HOTT. And Very Occassionally  - we all know about small kids and dice rolling games eh?), as well as admitting to be a lawyer who likes tanks (which must be the punchline to a joke somewhere ...?). Unfortunately he has kept the secret of how QRF make a profit even on their tremendous value platoon packs a little more close to his chest....

  • How did you get into wargaming ? (not "when" as that might scare a few potential Desert Island Wargamers away!!)

I really don't recall the 'first time', or even how. I'm just feel I'm one of those who has always played with toy soldiers. My large model railway always seemed to have tanks and soldiers moving across it as the trains went round. I guess I was inspired by a copy of Chainmail, given to me by a friend at school. Strangely, I never played it. I still have it (somewhere!)

More recently, I'd been out of the country, came home and found myself with no social life, so I spotted a notice for a local wargames club and joined. That led me to a local wargames shop (for my first 'proper' army), where I met a few people who were to become good friends. One was Neil (Minifigs) and the other was Chas (who owned the shop and had just bought a small wargames company called QRF...) and the rest is history..

  • What was your first army, and where are they now ?
There were a couple. My first proper armies (other than just toy soldiers) were a Macedonian DBM army (now sold on) and a WW2 soviet force which is sat not 10 feet from me as I write this. It includes a balsa wood carved IL-2 that was my introduction into owning a wargames company.
  • What's your favorite army and/or set of figures in your possession, and why?

I do love my 15mm modern Americans - they came up so well, in their 3 tone scheme. I never get time to play with them these days, so they will probably stay in their box for a few more years. At the moment, I am rather attached to my HOTT army, which I play with my 5 year old daughter. Sometimes she even lets me win!

  • Geoffs favorite books are a rather non-standard selection and are listed below. The links go directly to the UK or US Amazon pages where you can find out more about each one.

This is the hardest part - I have no idea how to answer that! I hardly ever get time to read, but when I find a good book I'll read it in a couple of days. 9 times out of 10, what I read are factual reference books (for fun!), when I'm not reading my law manuals!!

Russian Encyclopedia of Tanks

Russian Encyclopedia of Tanks - a very large book I picked up in St Petersburg, Russia, printed in Moscow and no idea how you would reference it!! Actually, I brought back 3 of these massive beasts, full of history, facts, technical dimensions, photos and plans... and I'll be 300 years old before I manage to translate half of it!

Janes Arms and Armour

I have 3 of these huge books now, and I seem to spend ages just reading through them. In fact any Janes book will do me!

Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WW2, Peter Chamberlain and Hilary Doyle

My WW2 equivalent of a good Janes book! You could add to this the British version

And the rest.....??

I've never really focused on a book that I can say is a favourite, so I'm not even going to attempt to complete this list! I tend to quite get into techno-thriller books, especially those that run a single hero or group... so I've read Larry Bond, Tom Clancy, the Sharpe books and several other authors whose names I can never remember (usually when I'm in a bookshop scanning the shelves and have no idea who I have read before).

Temple by Matt Reilly / Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt books

Most recent book I read was Temple, by Matt Reilly. I'd quite like to read a few more of his William Race books, and also more of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt books.

The Zone Series James Rouch

I enjoyed the Zone series (James Rouch) although I found the strength of the good-American, bad Soviet-commie to be a bit heavy.

But I'm quite diverse, so I equally am enjoying the Narnia books and Harry Potter at the moment!!!
