Wargamers Island Books

Dave "Not the Razor" Ruddock, part time professional Northerner, and one of Mr Gaukroger's rivals for the "Most Posts on a DBx list in 24 hours" crown batters us into submission with a wadge of battle-orientated Epic Fantasy, then rounds it off with a "leave in the bog for guests" double-header..

  • How did you get into wargaming ? (not "when" as that might scare a few potential Desert Island Wargamers away!!)

Walking past a Games Workshop shop believe it or not.  In I walked and the rest is history..

  • What was your first army, and where are they now ?
Undead in Warhammer Fantasy Battle Third Edition.  Long since gone to the graveyard in the sky! (gave away a couple of years ago, so they are still in service!)

  • What's your favorite army and/or set of figures in your possession, and why?

New Kingdom Egyptians - My very first DBM army, it looks stunning and is
just about effective having seen action from DBM 1.3 to DBM 3.1, will soon
try in Art of War and DBMM

Dave's 10 favorite books are listed below. The links go directly to the UK or US Amazon pages where you can find out more about each one.

Amazon UK Amazon US
Michael Moorcock - The Tale Of The Eternal Champion.

An incredible achievement to get such a wide variety of books to tie up with the same theme

Peter Morwood - The Book of Years series

Extremely well written, sadly out of print, but fantasy at it's best.

Terry Pratchett - Any of the Watch books

A light hearted (but sometimes extremely accurate) view of life in a modern police force.

Bernard Cornwell - Sharpe series".

Marching with Wellington through the Napoleonic wars.

Stephen King - The Dark Tower series.

What must be seen as Kings seminal achievement.

Stephen Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

An excellent set of books, which demonstrates how even a leper can be an anti-hero

Stephen Donaldson - The Gap series.

Set in a future, in which I can actually believe, tells the story of big corporations in the next millennium

Douglas Adams - Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

42.  Nuff said.

Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman - The Death Gate series.

Fairly unobtrusive, Dungeons and Dragons style writing.

Stephen Pile - Heroic Failures / Return of Heroic Failures.

If you want some light entertainment, I cannot recommend a better couple of books
